Porto Sul Update

Porto Sul is a new open access, deep water port proposed to be constructed and built north of the existing port of Ilhéus in Bahia, Brazil.

Porto Sul will be an open access, deep water port dedicated to handling bulk commodities such as iron ore and, to a lesser extent, agricultural products.

A Preliminary Licence (environmental) was granted in November 2012 for Porto Sul. Cabral understands the latest timetable for commissioning is 2016 to coincide with the FIOL rail line to be commissioned at the same time.

Porto Sul is designed to handle cape size vessels and will have a 3.5 kilometre jetty constructed out to deep Atlantic water for this purpose.

Cabral has signed a Protocol of Intentions with the State of Bahia which proposes rail and port allocations of up to 15.0mtpa of Cabral’s future iron ore products.

The images below show the design of the onshore port facilities and storage areas. Also shown is a picture of the actual onshore port location north of Ilhéus visited by Cabral which shows ample space for the designed layout.
